Google Announces New Feature That May Excite Retail Businesses

Do you want to let the world know that you have the latest SKU (inventory) available? Here’s what’s coming.

Yesterday (September 29th, 2021), an interesting, 1 minute, 27-second video was published on Google’s YouTube channel. It was interesting because it was a cute portrayal of the customer-retailer dynamics of Google’s new search feature.

Your Retail Business

The video opens with a child named Bella. She’s talking about one of her Squishvilles, which (I think) is part of the Squishmallows brand. As you might guess, these are ‘squishy,’ soft, plush toys for kids.

Emily is the store owner of Hollipops Toys, a Squishville retailer. The video, among other things, shows how customers may find her shop.

With Google, You Can Compete With The Big Box Retailers

Let’s say that there’s a big box retailer within driving distance of your location.

But, they’ve run out of a specific SKU (or item), but you haven’t.

If that’s the case, then shoppers should come to you. After all, you have the item, and they don’t. Why should the smaller retailer be overlooked?

Well, by telling Google a few details, such as the SKU and name of your product (as demonstrated in the video), that item can be listed as available at your store.

People on Google, such as Ana Costa, who says, “And now, I just go to Google and search for it,” will find it with your store’s listing.

“They Can Now Find Me.”

Toward the end of the video, Emily, who’s a happy retailer, says, “It caused me to be profitable. For a small business competing against all the other big box stores around, they can now find me and get their favorite Squishmallow.”

And likewise, you may say something similar, particularly if you’re a retailer looking for more search visibility.

While the majority of the content of this site is geared toward digital marketers, we know that there’s an overlap among digital and retail, particularly when it comes to search visibility.

That’s why, if you stay tuned to this site, we’ll do our best to keep you up to date on all the latest announcements that are pertinent to you.

If you’d like to know more information about these advancements, please watch the video below. It’s between 42 and 43 minutes long, but will give you a good overview of the future direction of Search.
