On Friday, September 3, 2021, Google tweeted about a Google Analytics (GA) feature that some people may not know about.

The tweet is linked to a page that explains Realtime, which, as its name implies, allows you to see what’s happening on your web page or app in real time.

The Benefits of Real-Time Monitoring

If you’re someone who likes to be able to keep your finger on the pulse of what’s happening, you may want the benefit of real-time monitoring. Here are a few that come to mind:

Discover Mistakes and Errors Quickly

This can be one of the most important benefits of real-time monitoring. Let’s suppose that, in the past, when you activated a given campaign at a certain day and time, you’d be able to expect a certain amount of traffic within an hour or so.

But this time, you activate that same campaign, at the same day and time, and an hour later, you look at your Realtime: nothing.

You wonder what the issue can be. This campaign has almost always worked in the past.

You then remember that your team had made some technical changes to your site.

You look further, and discover that, yes, indeed, there was some glitch, and that’s why you’re not seeing the numbers that you’re used to seeing.

Your team resolves the issue, and you begin to see the traffic that you expected.

Whew! If Realtime wasn’t activated, this issue may have persisted undiscovered for days, draining your ad budget.

See Immediate Effects of a New Tweet or Social Media Post

This is similar to the benefit listed previously. Supposing that you had a new tweet or social media post. If you get immediate traffic, you should see that in Realtime.

Verify Tracking Codes

This is probably a two-step process: you see traffic, and see if your tracking solution’s numbers mirror the traffic you’re seeing.

Create Comparisons

You can tweak a small variable, and do a sort-of before-and-after comparison

So, if you’re looking for a real-time site or app monitoring solution Google Analytics Realtime is something to consider.
