In today’s digital world, it’s increasingly important to find health-related information from accredited sources, and YouTube has just taken a big step in that direction.
An expert panel from the National Academy of Medicine, when asked by YouTube to consider how to define “authoritative health content sources,” drafted a first-of-their-kind list of principles for determining these health content sources.
In this way, YouTube has taken a lead in this field.
So, what does this mean for the end user?
Well, when users see a video from an accredited source, there will be a notice saying the video is from such a source. The example image on YouTube’s blog post says, “From an accredited hospital.” Beneath that, it reads, “Learn how experts define health sources in a journal of the National Academy of Medicine.”
With the implementation of the suggestions from the National Academy of Medicine, searchers will be able to more easily find answers from reliable health sources.
