This Week’s Highlights: John Mueller from Google clarified that URLs can be in either uppercase or lowercase without significant impact, but he advised maintaining consistency in format to avoid SEO issues. In other news, Google has introduced Daily Listen, an experimental feature offering concise audio summaries of news in five minutes or less. Meanwhile, Microsoft is reverting to a previous AI model for its Bing Image Creator due to user complaints about the performance of the updated model.
Google Clarifies that Website Addresses Don’t Require Lowercase Letters for Search Functionality
John Mueller from Google reiterated that it is not necessary for your URLs to be in lowercase; they can also be in uppercase without any significant impact. However, he advised to choose one format and maintain consistency throughout.
According to Google’s help documentation, it is recommended to ensure uniformity in the case of text within URLs if the web server treats upper and lower case text the same way. This practice aids Google in identifying when multiple URLs point to the same page. It is important to acknowledge that this guidance was revised in the year 2023.
John wrote on Bluesky:
“URLs don’t need to be lower case, but they should be consistent (lower case might be an easy way to do that though). For all of this, also check for internal references like links or structured data, they should also be consistent.”
Google is Piloting an Audio-based Iteration of its Google Discover called Daily Listen
Google announced a new experimental feature called Daily Listen, a concise audio summary that delivers a 5-minute or shorter rundown of the news and topics that matter to you. Similar to the personalized content found in Google Discover, this feature provides an audio alternative. Currently available in the Google App for both iOS and Android devices, Daily Listen is part of Google’s Search Labs initiative.
The Daily Listen offers AI-created audio content that provides a summary of subjects believed to match your interests, derived from your Google browsing activity. According to a representative from Google, this feature delivers a customized audio experience through the Google app on both Android and iOS devices, helping users stay informed on their preferred topics. It is likened to NotebookLM’s Audio Overviews, offering a concise and tailored briefing on relevant information.
The Daily Listen consists of brief episodes, each lasting 5 minutes or less, that appear on your Google home page within the Google iOS or Android app. These episodes provide a summary of stories and subjects that match your interests in an audio form. Additionally, they include links to related stories for further exploration of topics.

Microsoft has Rolled Back the Bing Image Creator Update Following Complaints
Microsoft announced that it is reverting to using a previous AI model due to its inability to produce improved AI-generated images at a faster pace through Bing Image Creator.
The DALL-E 3 model PR16 was designed to assist users of Bing Image Creator in producing images of better quality at a faster pace. However, it turned out to be a failure.
Microsoft has announced that it is rolling back the latest update to its Bing Image Creator AI model, switching from PR16 to the previous version PR13, in response to widespread criticism from users on various platforms, including X and Reddit, who reported a significant decline in image quality and realism.
This is the message from Microsoft’s Jordi Ribas, who is the CVP of Search & AI, that has been shared and posted on X:
“Thanks again for the feedback and patience. We’ve been able to [reproduce] some of the issues reported and plan to revert to PR13 until we can fix them. All Pro users and about 25% of the requests using boosts are now on PR13. The deployment process is very slow unfortunately. It started over a week ago and will take 2-3 more weeks to get to 100%. I’ll keep you posted.”
