Google has announced that the Follow and Welcome Offer in Google Business Profiles are being deprecated, the exact date for when the features will be retired was not stated.
According to the announcement: “soon, customers will no longer be able to follow businesses on Google Search or the Google Maps app.”
For those who have already sent welcome offers, the offers are still valid until the offer is set to expire.
The option to follow businesses and provide welcome offers are ways to build engagement with customers and provide them updates about the business and any deals available. The welcome offers are great at enticing potential customers to check out the business.
As to the reason why these two features are being removed, there was no explanation provided. Perhaps there are not enough businesses using them or that they are found not useful or effective enough to keep them.
Google has stated that despite their removal, there are still many ways to engage with customers such as through promotions, events, and announcements, by getting feedback and building trust with customers, and holding conversations with customers.
