Google’s John Mueller responded to an intriguing question regarding whether Google treats niche sites differently. Google’s algorithm does evaluate diverse content differently, according to John Mueller, but Google does not treat niches differently.
Mueller said some factors affect rankings in specific niches. He said a study discovered clear patterns, such as top-ranked sites in specific niches having longer material or publishing more videos and it shows that Google favors sites with more material or videos in those specific niches.
When Mueller asked about various niches having distinct algorithms for indexing and ranking. He replied that they have two websites of the same type that they constructed using the same methodology. He added that the only difference is that the two sites are in different niches, and one is now ranking well while the other is not.
He also emphasized that It is not about the niche, it’s about the type of content, that the site’s specialization had no bearing on the ranking algorithm used.
He did clarify, though, that content is handled differently.
And, if you look at our Quality Raters Guidelines, we talk about things like Your Money Your Life sites, where we aim to have a little bit more critical algorithms involved in crawling, indexing, and ranking.
But you can’t claim, for example, that a bicycle shop has completely different algorithms than… I don’t know… a shoe store.
They’re both essentially e-commerce stores.”
