Google is developing a new data center in Nebraska as part of its plan to invest $9.5 billion in data centers and offices by 2022, as demand for Google Cloud grows.
With the announcement of a new $750 million data center in Nebraska, Google is on track to meet its promise of spending $9.5 billion on new Google data centers and offices by 2022.
The new Google campus in Omaha, Nebraska, will consist of four buildings totaling more than 1.4 million square feet, as demand for Google Cloud services and infrastructure continues to grow. Google Cloud reported a 45 percent increase in sales year over year to $5.5 billion in the fourth quarter.
“[The new data center] will provide more resources for our clients to build their businesses and employ digital services,” said Stacy Trackey Meagher, managing director of Google Cloud’s central region, in a statement.
According to Synergy Research Group, Google is one of the major spenders on new data center construction and equipment around the world, investing billions each year to accommodate its expanding cloud client demands. With at least 60 data center locations apiece, Google, Amazon Web Services, and Microsoft have the largest data center footprints in the world.
Google’s Pichai stated, “Our investments in data centers will continue to enable the digital tools and services that help people and businesses succeed.”
Google expects to invest billions this year on data centers in Georgia, Iowa, Oklahoma, Nevada, Tennessee, Virginia, and Texas, in addition to the new data center in Nebraska.
