Google India has announced that they are piloting the ability to search for particular keywords within YouTube videos. To be able to find exactly what you are looking for, just type in your query using the “Search in video” feature on the particular YouTube video.

This search feature will be using the video captions that are uploaded or the ones auto-generated by Google. If you are uploading videos in YouTube, it is a must to upload your own video captions to ensure that the captions or transcriptions are accurate, and that the video sections and particular keywords used and targeted are stated clearly.

This search capability has been in development for some time, with the addition of the “video chapter search” starting things off in 2021. The video chapter search incorporates text detection in order to identify chapters in the video. Another development is the ability to search video transcriptions that was launched in October 2021.

This new search technology has been launched in India as it is one of the company’s biggest markets. We expect that it would also be made available in other markets soon. In fact, according to Search Engine Land, some in the US are already seeing this feature.
