A number of sites have reported that they received a manual action penalty, just a few days since Google has started rolling out their March 2024 Core update and March 2024 Spam update. Some received their penalty as early as a day after the updates have been announced. Looks like the manual actions team are busy and would probably be for the coming days/weeks ahead.

Google has recently announced three new spam policies – scaled content abuse, site reputation abuse, and expired domain abuse. While the scaled content and expired domain abuses are already being enforced, the site reputation abuse will take effect starting May 5, 2024. This is to give time to the site owners to prepare for the change and make the necessary changes to their site and pages before it is enforced.

What Is A Manual Action?

A manual action is a penalty set upon on a site when a human reviewer at Google reviews the site and determines that the pages on the site are not compliant with Google’s spam policies. Most manual actions address attempts of sites to manipulate search rankings. Those with a manual action penalty will have their site or pages ranked lower or omitted from the search results. Read more on the manual action penalty in this Google documentation.
