Google Cloud announced at the Cloud Next 2022 conference that it is rebranding Google Data Studio to Looker Studio. They are unifying all their business intelligence products under the Looker brand, which Google acquired for $2.6 Billion back in 2020.
“Looker is the name you’ll hear us use when talking about all of our Google Cloud business intelligence product, as we bring together Looker, Data Studio, and core Google technologies like artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML),” Kate Wright, Google’s Senior Director for Business Intelligence Product Management has said in the announcement.
Google aims to provide users with more functionality compared to traditional dashboards by combining all its data analytics offerings under one umbrella. A complete enterprise business intelligence suite to help go beyond dashboards and infuse workflows and applications with the intelligence needed to help make data-driven decisions.
Looker Studio will also support access to Looker data model, allowing users to work with trusted data via the Looker modeling layer. This makes combining both self-service analytics from ad hoc data sources and trusted data from Looker, easier to combine. Looker Studio remains available at no cost.
In addition, Google is also launching Looker Studio Pro, which adds enterprise management features, team collaboration tools, and SLAs, to start, with additional capabilities down the road that enterprise customers have been asking for.
It was also announced that Looker (Google Cloud core) is now in preview. This new version of Looker will be available in the Google Cloud Console.
