Yesterday (October 28th, 2021), there was a tweet on the Google Analytics Twitter channel.

The Tweet linked to this 2-minute video:

Yesterday, I wrote a news item about a similar closely-related topic: custom parameters. The article’s titled, Want to Capture Information That Google Analytics 4 Doesn’t? Try Custom Parameters.

As I said in that article, custom metrics can give you more granular and insightful data, which, in turn, can lead to new insights.

Need a decision based on a combination of data points? Maybe a custom metric is, possibly, one way to go about that.

(But keep in mind that you may need some time to pass so that enough data can accumulate in your custom metric, so you may not be able to make a decision right away.)

And also, you can combine various sources of data to gain a better idea of the bigger picture.

This is sometimes known as blended data, and I wrote an article about Google Data Studio, which is a good example of blended data: Google Data Studio: Google Tweets New Article on Blended Data Sources.
