In the Google SEO Office Hours Episode last January 14, an attendee asked John Mueller if he has any tips that websites can do in the short term.

Mueller responded that it is always tricky because there’s some things that move very quickly in search and there are some things that take a longer period of time.

In general, what he would always recommend for sites is to make sure that they are not purely focused on search, and to make sure that they have a diverse set of traffic to the website.

He also mentioned that if you significantly improve the quality of a website, overall, you will also get better traffic from social media and other different channels that can drive traffic.

A mix of different channels makes it a lot more stable, but also means that if you make bigger changes, you’ll see some of the channels reacting faster, some of them taking a bit longer to update.

He advised that as a business, try to cater to a wide variety of options.

Has your agency mainly been focusing on SEO for your clients? Maybe it is also time to expand and reach out and check out other traffic sources such as PPC, ads, social media (Facebook, Youtube, etc.), Email marketing, etc.?

As they say, try not to put all your eggs in one basket and delving into these different channels can also provide more results for your clients, and generate more business for you.
