The Page Experience Update, also known as the Core Web Vitals, has rolled out to mobile from June to August 2021, and has now also started rolling out to desktop. The rollout to desktop is set to be complete by the end of March 2022.
The Page Experience Update gives importance to user experience, in order to provide users a better online experience. The launch to desktop is based on the same page experience signals that it has rolled out to mobile last year, and the same three core web vital metrics are used – Largest Contentful Paint (LCP), First Input Delay (FID), and Cumulative Layout Shift (CLS).
Aside from the Core Web Vitals, other aspects of page experience signals like HTTPS Security and compliance with Google’s Intrusive Interstitial Guidelines are also included.
Mobile-friendliness is not a factor as the rollout is for desktop. According to Google, if the site has a separate desktop and mobile version, the desktop signal will be based on the URL that desktop users see.
Last month, Google has also included a dedicated desktop section for the Page Experience report to help site owners understand Google’s criteria for what a good page experience is. You could check out your Page Experience Desktop Report in Search Console to see how your site is doing. If you have already made adjustments and fixes to your site for the rollout to mobile, then your site should not have much of a problem now that the update is rolling out in desktop.
