YouTube is launching a new feature called “Places Mentioned” which will automatically add links to the video description box of places that has been mentioned in the YouTube video. According to YouTube, this is “an easy and visual way for viewers to learn about locations mentioned” in the video.
The feature will be available if the YouTube mobile app for both iOS and Android, and will be rolled out for Food and Drink videos where the video platform can detect places mentioned in the video. There is still no timeline for release for the Places Mentioned feature and if it will eventually roll out to videos under different categories.
YouTube has mentioned that the Places Mentioned feature would help provide viewers a way to learn more about the places mentioned in the video. As of this time, there has been no releases yet on how this feature will look like once rolled out – if it would be just a regular link on the description box or if it would have its own particular area.
What does the Places Mentioned mean for SEO? A number of online businesses have tapped YouTube – creating their own YouTube channels and videos, for marketing and brand awareness. This would be a great feature for those in the Food and Drink business and though it has not yet been stated if it would roll out to other categories, it is an opportunity to take advantage of, even as early as this time. Create videos about your business and make sure to mention your business name and location in the video.
