Are you one of those who have received a redirect error notification in Search Console over the weekend? Have been going through Search Console and your site to fix the issue and can’t find it? Worry not and just ignore it. It seems that over the weekend, an internal issue has caused Google to send out Search Console notification on redirect errors. The emails were not due to any existing website issue but was just an internal error. Google has confirmed the issue on December 13 and has Twitted about it on the Search Console Twitter account:
An internal issue is causing an increase of redirect errors during indexing, and associated email notifications. This is not due to any website issues, but is due to an internal Google issue. We hope to fix this problem quickly.

Aside from the notification in Search Console, it also sent out an email to the Search Console associated email address. It reads out “Coverage issues detected on domain. Search Console has identified that your site is affected by 1 Coverage issues: Top Errors. Errors can prevent your page or feature from appearing in Search results. The following errors were found on your site: Redirect error. We recommend that you fix these issues when possible to enable the best experience and coverage in Google Search.” The Fix Coverage Issues button leads to a Search Console report where the redirect error status page shows the urls affected by the error.
If you are one of those that received this notification and email over the weekend, no need to worry and no need to make fixes on your site as this is an error from Google’s end. Google will fix the report in Search console and remove the redirect errors reported. If you received such notifications other than the weekend, then it’s best to probably check it out.
