Coming up with content can sometimes be a difficult task, especially if your site or channel regularly publishes content. There are a lot of ways to find topics to write about, create videos on, etc., such as through search, through competitive analysis, and keeping track of trends, among others.

One tweet that I chanced upon by @Ahmed_SEO_ is his use of forums to find killer topics in his niche that increases his traffic dramatically.

He mentioned how most people use tools for keyword research and to search for content, however, difficulty scores by some tools are mostly unreliable. Tools look at the strength of the backlinks to ranking pages and based on it, assess if a new page can rank for it or not. Factors such as existing content in the subject or relevancy are often ignored.

Nevertheless, most content creators use such tools for content ideas.

None of them thinks about what users in their niche are curious about, what problems are encountered, and what they are searching for.

This is where his idea of using forums as a source for content comes in. According to Ahmad, forums are a goldmine of topics for your niche. This is because you will find people that are passionate about the topic in the forum threads.

To research topics in the forums, his process is to search “[your niche]+forums”, open the top 5 forums and see how many threads there are and how many people are engaged in the replies.

According to Ahmad:

“Now, the content in those threads is not very optimised from an SEO perspective. There is no coherent flow of information, no structure, no use of H1, H2 etc. Just a bunch of passionate people discussing things they like. But these threads still get a TON of google traffic.”

He talked about filtering those pages with high organic traffic and writing well structured, well-optimized articles summing up the discussion and solving the problem that the people are talking about.

This is what he started doing a few months ago and his traffic exploded from it.
