If you’re reading this, you likely know about the value of measurement, metrics, and analytics: when perceived with insight, data can lead to informed decision-making and can spark creative innovations.

You know that, but you also know that all platforms (Google Analytics 4 in this case) take time and effort to learn.

(I’ll further refer to Google Analytics 4 as GA4.)

Is the cost-benefit worth it? Does the cost (GA is free monetarily, but does have a cost in terms of time and effort) worth the benefit?

While it’s up to you to decide, I think so, particularly if you want to grow your business for medium- and long-term success.

Last Friday (October 15th, 2021), Google sent out a tweet that linked to an article:

The tweet linked to an article by Robert McHugh, titled, What’s New in Google Analytics 4 and Why it Matters to Marketers

One reason why GA4, in short, was built, was to ‘be ready for what’s next.’

The Help of AI

One aspect of GA4 is AI-assisted data-gathering. As I’ll mention below, privacy restrictions are reducing the options that some marketers have of gathering some types of data.

That results in data gaps. But, AI helps fill in those data gaps. AI basically uses sophisticated algorithms to ‘guess’ what the missing data are, and fill in those gaps.

Privacy: An Ever-Critical Consideration

Major tech companies have faced big fines for infringing on data policies, whether they be GDPR or sharing data. With GA4, the claim is that you can use it while respecting user privacy.

Do You Have to Be a ‘Geek,’ ‘Nerd,’ or ‘Data Person’ to Benefit from GA4?

No. It might help if you fit the stereotype of a geek or a nerd, but Google is striving to make GA4 accessible to all. That said…

The Truth: GA4 Comes With a Learning Curve, But…

…in as little as a few hours, you can be competent enough to start implementing some of its basic features.

You don’t have to know how to use all of GA4 to benefit from it. Not at all.
